Docs overview

Docs is where your workspace keeps documents that aren’t tied to a single task — handbooks, runbooks, meeting notes, specs, anything worth writing down and coming back to. Documents live inside a workspace, the same as your projects and tasks.

A task’s description is part of that task — it’s short-lived context for the work in front of you. A document in Docs is its own standalone page: it has its own title, its own place in a folder tree, and it can be linked to one or more tasks rather than belonging to just one. If something is worth finding again after the task that prompted it is done, put it in Docs instead of the task description. See Task-linked docs for how the two connect.

The Docs sidebar lists your workspace’s spaces, each with its own folder tree:

  • Every team gets a team space, named after the team.
  • You also get a personal space, My notes, for documents only you can see.

Inside a space, folders nest documents (and other folders) the way a file browser does — expand a space to see its folder tree, and expand a folder to see what’s inside it. See Editing documents for how to create and organize them.

Access follows the space a document lives in:

  • A team space is visible to that team’s members.
  • Your personal space is visible only to you.

Beyond that, Docs access follows the same workspace roles as the rest of NRNS, and a workspace admin can turn Docs on or off — for the whole workspace or for specific members — from the Console. When Docs is off for you, its tile disappears from the account portal.
