App access

The Apps page controls which NRNS apps this workspace can use. There are two layers — a workspace-wide switch here, and an optional per-member override on the Members page — and it helps to understand how they combine.

Each app in the suite has a switch here, controlling whether that app is enabled for the workspace. Tasks can’t be turned off yet; apps that don’t have a working link yet are marked Coming soon and can’t be toggled either — that label is about whether the app is reachable at all, not about its default state.

Each app ships with its own default — Tasks and Docs default on, and you’ll need to turn most other apps on yourself before anyone can use them. Toggling a switch here overrides that default for your workspace; leaving it untouched just keeps whatever the app normally ships with.

In Tasks, someone without access sees a screen explaining the app isn’t enabled and pointing them back to a workspace admin. For Tasks and Docs specifically, turning the workspace switch off also drops that app’s tile from the account portal for anyone it affects, so it’s no longer one tap away.

Separately, from the Members page, you can turn an individual member’s access to a given app off without affecting anyone else — see Members. This can only restrict access, never grant it: a member override can’t turn an app on for someone if the workspace-wide switch above is off.

An app is usable by a given member only when both are true: the workspace-wide switch is on, and that member doesn’t have a per-member override turning it off. Whichever one says no wins — there’s no way to grant a member access to an app the whole workspace has turned off.

When an app is disabled from outside the workspace

Beyond the two toggles above, NRNS itself can also take an app offline platform-wide for maintenance or an outage — something only NRNS operations controls, not a workspace admin. If a member sees an app is unavailable, it helps to know the difference:

  • “{App} isn’t enabled for this workspace — ask your workspace admin” — in Tasks, this is the screen shown for both the workspace-wide toggle and a per-member override, so it’s always something a workspace owner or admin can fix from this page or from Members.
  • “{App} is under maintenance” — this only appears when NRNS has temporarily taken the app offline platform-wide. It isn’t caused by anything in your workspace’s settings, and a workspace admin can’t turn it back on — it resolves on its own once the maintenance is over. The Tasks tile in the account portal also shows a Maintenance badge while this is active.
  • Restrict or restore access for one member at a time in Members.
  • If sign-in itself is the problem rather than app access, see Troubleshooting sign-in.
